Great Minds
In coming up with a style idea for my "singer persona", i drew a few fashion sketches. This started back in May after i went to Princeton with Far Out and performed. One of the sketches was the idea of a dress i call the "Tutu Dress".
It would be made of tulle and have different shade of a specific color, like one layer would be light pink and another dark pink. I was soooo excited about this design and imagined it going far. I wanted to blog about it but i want to actually make it first before i premiered my idea.
The image in my dress was AWESOME. I imagined me and girls of similar taste in fashion rocking it so hard. I even considered taking it to small local boutiques in Atlanta when i built up enough inventory. Everywhere i went i looked at women and imagining how their different body types looked in my dress. Can u imagine chicks rocking this?! OMG! I was so excited.
But time and other activities put me behind my fashion goal. I was still anxious about making my dress but it wasnt a high priority. And now, almost three months later while looking for more inspiration for style i find this:
Damn Betsey Johnson! I appreciate and dislike you right now... i'm jealous and annoyed. I appreciate her design because, well, great minds think alike. lol. I'm jealous because that's still my freakin design! My designs are shorter, maybe stopping a little before the 2nd layer. And not as wide and thick. But i'm annoyed because i should have taken more initiative.
As with everything else in life, there's a lesson to be learned here. But this lesson in particular is one i often struggle with. And it's annoying because i'm always trying to improve myself but this fault keeps sneaking up on me! UGH! I need to "Just Do It" and jump into everything i do. My need to be analytical and organized holds me back. And i dont move until i know exactly what i'ma do. I need to just go to the store grab a bunch of tulle and figure it out as i go along. Granted, this is not always the best solution... but as of now, i'd rather have tulle and be closer to making my dress. Than it being 3 months later, i'm dress-less and just found a designer with the same design.
I made that statement (Just Do It/Get Over It) my theme for 2009. And i've done well so far but there's more i need to learn. And, for the record, I'm not upset about this design thing... I take it as it is. I cant control things outside of my circle and i accept that. But i can control who i become and how i initiate my tasks. I just have to remember to just do it and jump in.

Each piece has been carefully assembled by hand with great attention paid to making the piece wearable so that you will be able to enjoy it for many years to come." Click here for more information.
I especially like the earrings! But the whole line is impressive and affordable, if you're interested. I've never bought anything tangible offline but i'm pretty tempted. Obviously, the jeweler has earrings, and necklaces but there's also bracelets, cuff links, and pins. The collection is definitely one to check out. It's pretty cool.

Poor baby... =(
Here's some of what NeYo had to say about it:
I really hope he gets better soon. It's okay...if they're true fans, they should understand and respect his decision... Good luck to him.
Yahoo, Global Grind
Global Grind

At first, i was like "Oh cool, a site featured my blog" and i didnt think much of it. Today i was watching "Run's House", (which is one of the few reality shows i watch, it's awesome), and JoJo was talking about interviewing his dad, Rev Run, for Global Grind. And i was like "What!? My blog was featured on that? No way." So i looked it up and, ta-da, there it is. I dunno if this is a big deal or not. I get stoked when i get comments and a follow. So this is kinda a big deal to me. =)

Thank you "Mystery Person" who thought my blog was cool and featured it. I really appreciate your support.
And i cannot thank u guys enough for staying in tune with my blog and following me. And i promise there will be more to come.

The Notebook
1. This is a pic of a guy hiding behind his jacket, which was influenced by Lupe Fiasco. For some reason, the pic kinda gives me a Nas feel... humph, whatever. Anywho, i really like this picture. Especially since i'm not that good at drawing guys. lol. I like how this turned out.
2. This one was inspired by a collectible Barbie. I was bored one day at work and went on Barbie's site to check out the collectibles (they're gorgeous, of course!). By far, my favorite doll on the site is Hard Rock Cafe Barbie. She looks so cool. I want it. I saw another doll that kinda reminded me of an evil empress of some sort, so i drew my rendition of her.
3. The last pic was inspired by Lil Mama. I was just browsing her myspace page and pics. I liked her pose in this pic so i drew it. It was kinda like practice for me because i tend to have a hard time giving my pictures dimension. I gave it a slight anime appeal with the hair. I like the whole pic but, as simple as it seems, i really like how the "funk" came out. One of my fav things to draw is clothes, and thats why im proud of it (i'll post some fashion pics for y'all later).
Oh yeah, one more thing, these are "inked" versions of the original pictures. The originals are pretty messy and was done in pencil. These were drawn with a gel pen over the scanned original and then slightly touched up on Photoshop.Hope u like it,
Allie

Cool Shoes

I like the first two (especially the first one). But i can see the third one becoming a fad... this is what the source had to say about it:
Smart Faucet
"Multi-taskers: welcome to the revolutionary SmartFaucet faucet from iHouse! This incredible product seems to be straight off the Starship Enterprise - facial recognition technology recognizes every user. Once it knows you, the SmartFaucet tap will automatically turn on the water to your preferred temperature and flow. If that’s not enough for you, you can also use the touch screen to access e-mails, check the outside temperature, check your calendar, etc. So there’s no need to miss that important message when you are bathing. It seems almost churlish to mention the wonderful waterfall-style spout of the faucet – but this luxurious feature is not to be forgotten. Likewise, the chromotherapy lighting of the faucet will enhance your bathing experience everyday. Straight from high tech loft that iHouse built for the FEICON construction show in Sao Paulo, Brazil into your home – what could be better? Contact iHouse for more." -Trendir
Sweet Dreams
It's out now, and i must say it is hot. I like it... i dunno what else to say. lol. I love the direction she's going with her dancing and the cinematography to show off those moves. My boyfriend and i were talking about why Jackson's moves were so catchy. Among several other things, Michael had signature moves, and the cinematography allowed for viewers to easily see, analyze, and learn the dances. This is probably why the "Single Ladies" dance caught on like rapid fire.
And big ups to Jaquel Knight, a choreographer behind the "Single Ladies" dance, along with Frank Gaston. I'm so proud of him. He went to my high school, now look at him getting props from Beyonce, herself, at the BET Awards. Congratulations! His moves have always been on point. I wonder if he also choreographed "Sweet Dreams"... hmmm....
Well, here's the video:
The Missing Links

... just cool as hell.
You know... with the recession and all...
"Man! Dang, i just cant get a break. He keeps doing that fire ball...
and with the recession and all.. (ugh!)"
...lol. It might be funnier in person. lol...
Anywho... this line couldnt be more true. This economic downturn has effected sooo many industries, including the fashion industry. One of my professors stated that in every economic downturn luxury items werent highly effected. And in some cases, the sales increased! This was mainly because the rich stayed rich, people bought luxury items to make them feel good, and all though times were hard pricey items didnt damage the pocket so much. This is NOT the case with this recession, however. And it's effecting the high fashion world...
TIME says, "Tough economic times take their toll on the French Haute Couture houses. As Christian Lacroix shows what may be his last collection and other designers curtail expenses, it was not surprising to see black emerge as the color for autumn, 2009." See Pictures of Couture Shows. (Dior's Flower Hat is gorgeous! And that suit by Giorgio Armani is the baddest thing ever! ^_^)
An article from the Associated Press also speaks of Christian Lacroix. "Lacroix, who has been dogged by financial woes for much of his label's 22-year-long existence, has said he will probably be forced to close his doors at the month. But he also says he hopes to attract new investors with deep pockets and come back, Phoenix-like, after the crisis." Read the whole article.
Honestly, i didnt think the fury of this recession would reach this far into the haute couture or fashion period. But the world is full of surprises. It's hard to remember America is not the only one suffering. This guy is a French designer hit hard by financial failures. And not to mention people in other countries who were already struggling... man... (sigh...)
Lets not dwell on our woes. Instead, let's appreciate the good we make of our situations.

First Day of School...
First day of Summer Quarter...Two classes...
Two days a week...
Two quarters to go (this & fall quarter)...
I'm counting down...
This quarter i'm taking Microeconomics & Intro to Finance... all this for a AA in Marketing Management. (Sigh...)
I cant wait until it's over. I'm sooo taking a year off! lol. I'll still be working, but at least it wont be class work. ^_^.
And when i got home today, i realized i missed almost all of the Michael Jackson Memorial Ceremony. Oh nooooo!!! I missed everything except the family speaking at the end. It's okay... i'm watching CNN's review of the ceremony now... but i'm still a little disappointed i missed it. I wanted to watch it with the world... how petty of me. lol. Love & life Michael Jackson...
Anywho.... i'll be going to Finance class later on today. Microeconomics was earlier today... they're so far apart. It kinda sucks. But i'm at the point where i cant make my schedule convenient... i gotta take whats left of my curriculum. What can i say... (shrug)
Well... talk to you later. Have a cool day.
Dueces,
Allie.
Cool Stuff
Well... umm... yeah. There it is. Everything you need for a meal right there...lol. I'm sorry. This is just a little silly to me.Creative? Yes. Cool? Yes. Convenient? Of course.
But still silly. I mean, this is the type of thing that use to come with my doll houses. Now you want me to use it in real life? Who would've thought... Humph, sure why not. I'll buy it. lol. ^_^
Seriously, who comes up with these things?! It's so cool!
I still cant get over how real the hand looks. Now when you ask someone for a hand (with mechanical work), they
can really give you one. Hahaha! ^_^.
A little more than bold
I really like the concept of these bags. The safety pin thing... i would've never thought of that!

Unfortunately these bags come with a price tag of $600-1500. But that's okay. I dont mind looking from afar with admiration. Could u pass me a napkin please? I think i'm drooling. lol.Bodhi
Is it fear or courage that compels you?
One of my favorite quotes comes from Megatron (Transformers, 2007), “Is it fear or courage that compels you?”
And after all of this and a conversation with my mom, I realized I was driven by fear. It’s funny, because I never thought of myself as such. You imagine someone living in fear being dramatically fearful, when in realization, their just moderately fearful… if that makes sense. My excuse to everything was “I’m being cautious.” I was cautious about money, love, family, everything… including my dreams & goals. You’re supposed to go after what u want, right? Just grab it. So what it may be covered in nails and you may have to jump over a huge ditch before you reach it, you gotta do it. Lol. Okay, that’s a little dramatic. But nothings easy and the fear of getting stabbed or falling down shouldn’t hold you from your dreams.I told my brother that time doesn’t stop. Even when your waiting for something to happen or to make a decision, you’re still moving. You may want the world to freeze and to you, your world is frozen because you’re making no major decisions, but it’s not. Life keeps going. So just do something. You either do something or do the same thing you were doing, you can not do nothing…
So yesterday, I decided to do something. I decided to pursue headstrong in my quest of becoming a successful Pop Artist/singer. I know it’s gonna be hard. And it seems like everywhere u look, someone is tryna get their hands in the music business. But this is not about them. My life is about me and becoming the best of that. The only way I can do that is keep analyzing and improving my technique until it is perfect. Before now, I’ve been here nor there with my music. I told myself “it’ll be nice if I’m a singer, but if it doesn’t happen, I’m okay.” There I go again making excuses. You know, I heard this quote a long time ago: “People make excuses when they expect failure.” That’s not exactly how the quote went, but that was the point. Phrases like “I’ll try” and “maybe” mean you really don’t expect you’ll achieve that something you’re referring to. I’m not one who whole-heartedly believes talking thing into existence makes them appear. But I do believe one must be optimistic in order to help one’s moral and to keep focused towards a specific dream. However, you will never get there without some form of work. And to work wisely without fear may only get you there faster…
…Everyone has things they're fearful of. But in order to grow, you must know & understand & accept your fears and faults… then you must correct them.

My Magazines
I've been waiting for them all week:
1. TIME Magazine w/ Michael Jackson on the cover
This is a great shot of him. There are a lot of other commemorative issues from other magazines on the stands but i wanted this one. Plus, i like this picture. This is the Michael Jackson i was introduced to so i felt it appropriate to get this one instead of ones with him as a kid on the cover...

and 2. Z!NK Magazine
This magazine is so freakin dope!

It's fashion pics are simply awesome and i immediately fell in love with it.
Here are a few pics i like...

of these looks and i cant wait to try them! ^_^
Ripped Jeans
Ciara...

and Lady Gaga...

I personally like both pants... well, Gaga's is a bit much for me, but i do like the concept. But what about these?

Anyone will look crazy with an outfit of holey pieces, but i guess if you separate them they'll look okay... right? Sure, why not. I think i like the first one the best... But i cant help but wonder, has this designer taken this torn trend too far?
