Something Like a Mini Tour

Excuse my absence; I’ve been missing for a few weeks. But it’s not in vain, I promise. Me & the FarOut crew had a performance at Princeton University! It’s was pretty damn awesome. Lol.

So what/who is FarOut exactly??? Well, 'FarOut Ventures' is a company that explores several types of entertainment & creative ventures, including but not limited to creative writing, music, film, and fashion, through individuals that have skills in those specified areas. But let's digress; we’ll get into that later.

We were invited to Princeton to perform at Hip Hop Art & Life’s "Women in Hip Hop Conference". It was so much fun! Bias and Glenn were the headliners out of the FO Camp. I was back-up singing. And Devan, our manager, made sure we got the most out of this occasion and everything ran smoothly. And Chi Chi, VP of HHAL and affiliate of FarOut, is so freaking dope! I appreciate her more than she knows for all of her help. Check out their blog

Other acts included-

Riva Flowz: Amazing doesn’t even begin to describe this photographer, writer, emcee, and poet whom is also featured on Def Poetry Jam. Read her blog.

Yafreici: Singer, emcee, and Urban Word Poet and one of the coolest people I met on this trip. Visit her Myspace Page.

3XL: Shayna, Menda, & Nikki, Feminist rap group. I love their style!

And DJ D.Scott: He did his thing. Much appreciated.

Guest Speakers included Dr. Cornell West, Amanda Diva, Shanti Das, and many, many more.

Overall, our trip was indescribable. Within 5 days we performed in Princeton, NJ; Philadelphia; and New York!!! We hung out with old friends, met new ones, and have never been busier! LOL.

Bias’ single (Stencil feat. Glenn) from his upcoming album, “Sent By Messenger,” has been getting good reviews. And its popularity is continuing to grow. This is a real exciting time for FarOut Ventures and I’m confident future experiences will be even more thrilling. ^_^.

Love,
Allie.

My Make-Up Story

Would u believe I bought foundation make-up
for the first time EVER yesterday?!

I know right! Lol. I don’t generally wear a lot of make-up, just lip gloss & eye make-up, but I’ve been curious. So, when my friend (Kierstyn) and I went to the mall the other day, I was like “why not? if i'ma get it, i might as well get it from a professional first.” So here I am, with foundation. (Yay!)

Me & Kierstyn

I bought Clinique. The make-up artist helped me find my complexion and put it on me. Then when I got home, my friend showed me how to put it on myself (Thank You, Kierstyn!). I also decided to try some green CoverGirl eye shadow.

Coolness ... Allie

Great Minds

...sometimes think alike. But if one great does it first, does the second one (who had the idea at the exactly same time but accomplished it second) still matter?

In coming up with a style idea for my "singer persona", i drew a few fashion sketches. This started back in May after i went to Princeton with Far Out and performed. One of the sketches was the idea of a dress i call the "Tutu Dress".

It would be made of tulle and have different shade of a specific color, like one layer would be light pink and another dark pink. I was soooo excited about this design and imagined it going far. I wanted to blog about it but i want to actually make it first before i premiered my idea.

The image in my dress was AWESOME. I imagined me and girls of similar taste in fashion rocking it so hard. I even considered taking it to small local boutiques in Atlanta when i built up enough inventory. Everywhere i went i looked at women and imagining how their different body types looked in my dress. Can u imagine chicks rocking this?! OMG! I was so excited.

But time and other activities put me behind my fashion goal. I was still anxious about making my dress but it wasnt a high priority. And now, almost three months later while looking for more inspiration for style i find this:

Damn Betsey Johnson! I appreciate and dislike you right now... i'm jealous and annoyed. I appreciate her design because, well, great minds think alike. lol. I'm jealous because that's still my freakin design! My designs are shorter, maybe stopping a little before the 2nd layer. And not as wide and thick. But i'm annoyed because i should have taken more initiative.

As with everything else in life, there's a lesson to be learned here. But this lesson in particular is one i often struggle with. And it's annoying because i'm always trying to improve myself but this fault keeps sneaking up on me! UGH! I need to "Just Do It" and jump into everything i do. My need to be analytical and organized holds me back. And i dont move until i know exactly what i'ma do. I need to just go to the store grab a bunch of tulle and figure it out as i go along. Granted, this is not always the best solution... but as of now, i'd rather have tulle and be closer to making my dress. Than it being 3 months later, i'm dress-less and just found a designer with the same design.

I made that statement (Just Do It/Get Over It) my theme for 2009. And i've done well so far but there's more i need to learn. And, for the record, I'm not upset about this design thing... I take it as it is. I cant control things outside of my circle and i accept that. But i can control who i become and how i initiate my tasks. I just have to remember to just do it and jump in.

Love & Life,
Allie
